Hendrika Van Leeuwen "Binkie"

April 15, 1925 - September 21, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hendrika “Binkie” Van Leeuwen at the age of 98.

Born in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, her parents were called to return to The Netherlands three months later. At that time Binkie would begin a new chapter of her life in Holland. The next 23 years spent in Europe would forever be a part of her Dutch identity.

At the age of 23, she returned to the United States where she met and married her beloved husband, John in 1955. They settled on Arnold Avenue in West Babylon, New York and lived there for 60 years. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Babylon. John pre-deceased Binkie in 2010.

Binkie moved to The Avalon Assisted Living in Hillsborough, NJ at the age of 90 to be closer to her family.

She was a loving and devoted mother to her only son, Kenneth (Kim), who brought immense joy to her life. Her love extended to her two grandchildren, Katie (Mark) and James and her heart was further enriched when she welcomed her great-grandchild, Hannah, into the family.

Binkie was marked by her kindness, and unwavering love for her family. She touched the hearts of everyone she met and will be fondly remembered for her wisdom, resilience, and the enduring legacy of love she leaves behind.

As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember the beautiful journey of a remarkable woman who bridged continents and generations with her love. She will forever remain in our hearts, and her memory will continue to inspire us.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral home, 448 W. Main Street, Babylon, NY. Visitation begins at 10:00 am followed by interment at North Babylon Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating her life.

A visitation for Hendrika Van Leeuwen will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A prayer service will occur Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 11:15 PM at Claude R. Boyd - Spencer Funeral Home, 448 W Main St, Babylon, New York 11702. An internment will occur Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 12:15 PM at North Babylon Cemetery, Livingston Ave and Sunrise Highway S Service Rd, North Babylon, New York.
