

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James M. Sherman, who passed on November 20, 2025, at the age of 77. A lifelong resident of Babylon, New York, James was known for his vibrant spirit, his deep love for the water, and his dedication to his work.
James was a proud Bayman and Clammer, a profession he devoted himself to with passion and skill. Over the years, he built his own successful business in Babylon, NY, and later expanded to Florida, where he continued to share his love for the bay and its bounty. His connection to the water was not just a livelihood—it was a way of life. He took immense joy in each day spent on the bay, whether working or simply appreciating the beauty of the ocean.
In addition to his work, James had a simple love for life. He could often be seen riding his bike around Babylon, taking in the scenery and connecting with the community he so cherished.
James leaves behind his beloved sisters, Gail Goldschrafe and Lauren Sherman, and is survived by his nieces and nephews, who adored him deeply. He was a cherished uncle, known for his kindness, humor, and generosity of spirit.
James was preceded in death by his parents and many loved ones, but he will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy as a dedicated worker, loving family member, and true friend will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Rest in peace, James. You will be deeply missed.
