Many years ago, John told me he liked to have a 'management by walking around and talking to people' style. He said that way you could find out what was going on with people. He believed in two-way communication with employees. He did his best to help his team feel valued and to listen to our work goals, hopes and dreams. I remember one time he stopped by and I was telling him about a deadline I was worried about meeting, or perhaps it was about a challenging project, and all of a sudden he smiled. I asked him what was so funny, and he said something like,' Well, yes, I could use a Mojito too right now.' It was so funny, because I hadn't said I wanted a Mojito, but the miscommunication made us both laugh. That's how I remember John: trying to inspire his team, keeping a light touch, and making us laugh, which was so helpful in dealing with the stress of working in advertising. RIP, John, and thank you for your kindness and idealism in the workplace.

Sweet and kind with just the right amount of sass, I will miss this terrific man. My heart goes out to you Bill- you both were so lucky to have found the partner of a lifetime. Love to you both! Xoxo

I knew John way back. He was always a sweet, kind and loving person. Just now found out about his passing will be missed. The world was a better place with him in it. Rest in peace John

My memories of John are of a sweet and gentle boy who grew up to be a carbon copy of the boy.  Always smiling,  with a fun personality, I will keep him in my heart forever.   You will be missed and always remembered with love.

Little did I know when I first met John at CBS that our friendship would only grow over the years. His gentle spirit always led the way, as —over and over again—he would spread his wings, and then reach back to bring me along. I owe a debt of gratitude to his warmth, immense sense of humor, and unbridled optimism as we navigated not only our careers, but most certainly our lives. You will be so missed, my friend! To Bill, especially, I am so deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss.

I am saddened by the news of John’s passing. A guiding light he played in my career. I’m forever grateful for him. John and I worked together as colleagues in the early 2000's running the creative department at Sudler & Hennessey, a bustling Manhattan ad agency back then. I remember John as soft-spoken and kind. He managed his demanding job with positivity, good humor and grace. The consummate professional, he almost always wore a suit and tie--even in an environment that accepted much more casual attire. Perhaps it was his way of maintaining control and commanding the respect he deserved.  But he never took himself too seriously. That sly, twinkling smile he had for everyone gave away his softer side.  Rest easy, John. I'll miss you. Big hug, Joe

Ohhhh John,  your quiet, humble, kindness and humor will be missed dearly.  41 years ago we sat in double period art class, we would always manage to set up our easels next to each other and get in trouble for laughing alittle too much. Back in 2010 at our 30th HS reunion, I was so happy that you were not only there but we were able to share some quality time together. Since then we kept in touch and our paths crossed in the advertising world prior and I am so grateful for all the warm memories you  left behind.  My thoughts and prayers for your beloved family that helped you keep your wits about, no matter how uncomfortable you were.  Peace, I will see you on the other side! 🙏

John  so many memories of child hood of you sneaking out of your window, happy ones that will be brought into view when I think of you. Well I’m sure you journey will be a happy one and may god hug you as you enter..

There are so many wonderful memories I have of John (aka Johnny)- 
From our working together at many agencies to taking fabulous trips with him!
We will all remember the infamous trip to the British Virgin Islands - the laughs were a plenty and quality time together. Priceless!!!
Not to mention our fabulous lunches at work - who did we think we were setting up our desks with table clothes and candle light- that’s how we rolled!!!
Johnny was a true friend, with a lot of zest for life.  
I love you and treasure every minute of our time together.  
Look forward to seeing you and picking up were we left off on the other side.

John was an inspiring leader, a creative problem solver,  a pleasure to work with, and a kind friend to all.  I have fond memories of bringing my teacup Maltese puppy to play with Sophia, the resident Maltese in John's department.  John gaves us cover for this (forbidden) delightful office activity. John has been a welcome commenter on Facebook-- always offering support and lovely good wishes.  May his memory be a blessing
 to all who admired and loved John.  A truly good man.

My memories of John go back 35 years, when I first moved to Long Island, and we worked blocks away from each other in Manhattan, occasionally meeting for lunch. 

His gentle manner and our shared love of design were ever present throughout our ensuing interactions—along with the bravery with which he faced illness and suffering during the last years of his life.

John and I got to know each other as work colleagues years ago, and I remember how he helped make the work day a little easier, a little less stressful, with his always positive can-do attitude and sense of humor. He was generous and giving as a colleague and as a friend.  We will always remember his joyful spirit and sense of fun. He will be dearly missed.
