

Loretta Altenburg, of Hamilton, New Jersey, passed away on June 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on December 13, 1939, in New York, Loretta lived a life defined by love, devotion, generosity, and kindness. Loretta was the beloved daughter of Walter and Frances, who raised her in New York. She shared a remarkable 60-year marriage with her devoted husband, Richard Altenburg Sr. Together, they built a loving home and raised three children, creating a family legacy grounded in faith, dedication, and unconditional love.
For many years, Loretta worked as a secretary for Dr. Arnold Liberman, DDS, where she was admired for her strong work ethic and warm, caring nature. Whether with family, friends, coworkers, or acquaintances, Loretta was known for her kind heart, generosity, and selflessness. Loretta possessed a special talent for sewing and took great joy in creating beautiful prom and wedding dresses. Her creativity and devotion were also evident in the elaborate Halloween costumes she lovingly made for her grandchildren. Through every stitch, she expressed her thoughtfulness and love for those closest to her. She also enjoyed spending time at the Hamilton Township Center, where she formed lasting friendships and shared many happy moments with those around her.
Loretta leaves behind her loving children, Vicki (Sal) Messina, Valerie (Steven) Kaletcher, and Richard Jr. (Donna) Altenburg. She was the cherished grandmother of Salvatore, Nicole, Danielle, Kristine, Amy, Emily, Eric, and Kyle, and a proud great-grandmother to several great-grandchildren. Her love, guidance, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation in the Argyle Room on June 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and again from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 25, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Babylon, New York. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York, at 12:15 p.m.
