Lydia started her career working for Aetna Insurance as an executive secretary. Prior to WWII, she commuted to work in Manhattan and passed the time on the LIRR crocheting doilies. After her children went off to college, she managed a family owned liquor store in Babylon Village for many years. She was an avid gardener and had a very large vegetable garden every summer that supplied an abundance of fresh vegetables. She spent her later retirement years reading math and physics books to keep her mind sharp.
Lydia and her husband, George Pack (d. 2012 after a 68 year marriage), had five children. She loved being surrounded by her family and hosted many gatherings at her home. She was a loving and caring person who never saw fault in her children.
Along with her parents, Lydia was preceded in death by her husband George; her son George; her daughter-in-law, Zuffan; and two siblings: Clara Findeisen and Rita Down.
She is survived by her brother, Jack (Kathleen); her children: Lydia (Carl) Fishbaugh, Tom (Geri) Pack, Patty Pack, and Barbara (Joel) Hauser; ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
A private viewing was held Friday, February 11 followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Babylon, NY. Pandemic-permitting, the family plans to host a Celebration of Life this coming Summer at Argyle Park.
