Margaret Dooley Horstmann, 77, of Babylon, NY, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a lifetime. Margaret was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandma, beloved sister, and treasured friend whose greatest joy was caring for and being surrounded by those she loved.
Born in Bay Shore, NY, on September 23, 1948, Margaret was a graduate of West Babylon High School class of 1967. She retired from Estee Lauder as a Quality Control Manager after 25 years. She had a love for traveling with her husband, was an avid reader and proud member of the Tooker Bookers Book Club, and an active Parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Babylon.
For 57 wonderful years, she shared a beautiful marriage with her husband, Gerard Horstmann. Together, they built a life filled with love, dedication, and countless memories that will be treasured forever. Known for her kind heart and gentle spirit, Margaret always put her family first. She was her family’s fiercest cheerleader in life, especially on the sidelines of countless ball games, competitions, and recitals, where she could always be heard cheering the loudest. She rarely missed an opportunity to support her children and grandchildren, taking great pride in their accomplishments and encouraging them every step of the way. Her presence, enthusiasm, and unwavering support were gifts they will carry with them forever.
In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by her three beloved Sons and Daughters-in-law: Jerry and Lori Horstmann (NC), Peter and Heather Horstmann (NY), and Thomas and Laurie Horstmann (NY). She adored her role as “Grandma” and her legacy will live on through her eight grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Nicholaus, Peter, Chloe, Lucas, Logan, and Callie. She will also be greatly missed by her Sister-in-law, Janice D’Onofrio (NY), her cherished brothers, Bill Dooley (FL), Ed Dooley (NY), and her sister and best friend, Mary Ann Johnston (NY). Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, James and Grace Dooley, and her sister Cathy Dooley. Margaret’s greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely and the family she cherished so deeply. The memories she created, the lessons she taught, and the love she shared will continue to live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Margaret will be deeply missed, but her love will remain in the hearts of her family forever. The family will hold a Funeral Mass at 11:15am on July 2, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Babylon, NY. Family and friends are then invited to pay their respects at a Celebration of Life Wake on July 2, 2026 from 5:00-9:00pm at Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. https://give.mskcc.org/
