Margaret “Mickey” C. Roer, of Babylon, New York. Beloved mother to Shane and Brett. Loving sister to Camille, and the late Thomas Castiglione. Dear sister-in-law to Anne. Cherished aunt to Thomas and Nicole. Adored mother-in-law to Jessica. Caring grandmother to Julia. Mickey died surrounded by family and friends at Good Shepherd Hospice, Port Jefferson, New York on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Mickey taught Spanish and Italian in the Foreign Language Department at Robert Frost Middle School, Deer Park, New York for twenty-one years. To her colleagues and students she was unforgettable and one of a kind. Upon her retirement the school and staff all agreed that there will never be another Mickey Roer. Mickey was an adventurer and world traveler throughout her life and loved to tell stories and share experiences of the places she had seen. She was an amazing cook who loved to play host and gained the most pleasure in preparing meals and opening her home to wonderful friends and family alike. Although her departure was swift, she continued to play the role of mother, mentor and confidant to those she loved. Everyone whose life she touched has a favorite “Mickey” story and they are all told with great exaggeration and happiness, and her life and legend will live on in their memories. Born and raised in Brooklyn/Queens, New York she was a true New Yorker, who lived on her own terms and will be deeply missed by all. Friends may visit the Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Homes, 448 West Main Street, Babylon, New York Thursday, November 6, 2014 and Friday, November 7, 2014, 2-4:30 and 7-9:30 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice Foundation, Community Relations Department, 110 Bi-County Blvd., Suite 114, Farmingdale, NY 11735, Attention: Inpatient Center.
Don't grieve for me for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I've found that peace at the end of the day.
