Petrina Sofia

Petrina Sofia, age 83, of West Islip, New York, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. She is now reunited with her beloved late husband, Francis, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion.

Petrina was a cherished mother to Donna Kupres (John), Thomas Franco, and John Franco (Katherine). She was a proud and loving grandmother to John, Deanna, Tommy, Adam, and Kasey, and a devoted great-grandmother to Lily, John, and Charlie. She is also survived by her dear brother, Jerome Salerno (Debbie), as well as her beloved white Maltese dog Baby, who brought her great comfort and companionship.

Petrina lived life with energy, enthusiasm, and a love for adventure. She enjoyed following the stock market, shopping, and traveling, especially to her favorite destinations of Italy and Florida. She also loved the excitement and entertainment of trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Claude R. Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and again from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on May 22, 2026, at 10:15 a.m.Interment to follow at St. Charles / Resurrection Cemeteries at 11:45 a.m.

Petrina will be remembered for her warm heart, strong spirit, love of family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
