Claude R. Boyd–Spencer Funeral Home
Salvatore Fontana (87) of West Babylon, NY passed away on March 17, 2023. Salvatore was born on March 12, 1936 in Villabate Italy, located within Palermo Sicily. He was one of five siblings. Salvatore immigrated to Venezuela at 19 years old and moved to America at 25 years old. It was at that time in New York City where he met his loving wife Marie. Salvatore was a successful businessman, starting out owning a small pizzeria in Queens, NY, and eventually opening Fontana’s Pizzeria and Restaurant on Long Island, a landmark in West Babylon for over 20 years. Salvatore enjoyed spending time with his growing family. He would always offer an espresso or glass of wine when you visited his home. Salvatore also loved being in the woods hunting, taking care of his fig tree, and sitting down to watch his favorite soccer teams play on tv. He was a prideful man who often had a wonderful sense of humor.
Salvatore was preceded in death by his wife Marie and son Joseph. He is survived by his 4 children and their spouses; Phyllis (Corrado) Azzarelli, Sandy (Frank) Calautti, Maria (Tiziano) Carcone, Jennifer (Salvatore) Vonella, and (Karissa) Fontana.
