It took me 365 days to write on this page. Sean Joseph Mulligan I have the proud honor of being your daughter. There isn’t one moment that I haven’t thought of you since we had to let you go. I miss you every minute of every day. From thinking of the silly things you’d do, or sadly thinking of the things you don’t physically get to be a part of anymore. I know there is always going to be more moments that I’ll just wish I could have with you. Your presence is missed so immensely. I speak of you as often as I can to make sure you are still a constant in our lives.  The kind words from all who knew you are so wonderful to read and hear. You were kind, silly, and by far the strongest person I’ll ever know. I love you forever and could never thank you enough for being my dad and all the things that having that title entailed. Forever in my heart 

In part to isolation due to the pandemic, I learned only in the past few days of Sean's passing. Unlike so many of my colleagues, I've "only" worked at NYL for just over ten years. In my earliest days, I was a frequent traveler to the home office from Atlanta. Sean's door was always open, and he was always willing talk to me. He was the real deal, a genuinely decent person, as so many have shared here before me.

After my transfer from technology to risk management, my new profile meant that I no longer travel for work. This was a blessing in my personal life, but it also meant that I no longer get the benefits that come from that, the feeling of being connected. And, I lost touch with many of my NY colleagues, Sean included. So, news that he had fallen ill never reached me, and I feel sad that I allowed that to happen.

Shocked to hear that Sean... a wonderful, smart colleague passed away last December.  Condolences to his Family. 

I worked in the same general area of Sean for about 5 years and appreciated the career advice he offered me to survive the layoffs,  office politics and "snakes" who I worked for and with. His advice was genuine and insightful. 

Very sad news and he will be missed by all who knew him.

I am very sorry for your loss. I just received the New York Life News and Sean was on the remembrance page. I did not know before today. Sean was a wonderful person and always willing to help me in the tax department with technology questions. I was always impressed by his expertise and knowledge and he was always a cheerful person. 

With a big grin and helpful attitude, Sean was the best thing that happened to New York Life. Many that walked the hallways and rode the elevators had no idea of the knowledge base he amassed over his career. He shared it all just for the simple feeling he had in knowing he could help. 

He was never interested in building empires, just satisfied in building friendships ... of which he had amassed many. 

A true man at his core who will be missed by many. My heartfelt sympathies go to his wife and children at this time.

I met Sean shortly after joining NYL.  My hobby is genealogy and Mulligan is one of my family lines.  I remember joking with Sean that I was going to find out someday that we were related. His retort was good luck,  he had 21 first cousins.  RIP.

Sean was one of the most decent and friendly people that we knew during our long careers. He was intelligent, but possessed a sense of humor that could lighten a serious moment. I am deeply saddened by Sean’s death. At New York Life I was Sean’s manager (although I’m sure Sean would say that he managed me) and friend for many years.. I convinced him to leave Corporate Audit and transfer to the Controller’s Department. Sean was very creative. There was no project he wouldn’t tackle.  Sean was instrumental in transforming technology and finance as a key person in bringing the SAP system to NYLIC almost 20 year ago. It wasn’t easy but he managed to survive all the usual heated project battles. He would smile and be pleasant but would stick to his opinions. I wouldn’t have survived that project without Sean. I depended upon him. People at NYLIC, like me, will always remember Sean Mulligan and have stories and smile. I offer my condolences to his family who I know he loved very much. 

I had the pleasure of knowing Sean for the last 10 years at NYL. He was my 2nd stop after I would get into the office in NY.  He always had a smile on his face. We discussed so much stuff about work, life, everything. He always had an opinion for me. My first question to him always was - what’s the new certification?

Sean always was the friendliest at the fitness center at NYL. He and I would talk the whole time he sat on the bike, even while he did shoulder presses. His strength and positive energy will never be forgotten, always missed!

I knew Sean from the NYC technology community. He was a bright individual I was always happy to be around. What stood out the most was his personality. Kind, funny and thoughtful. He was someone I could talk to almost about anything. He would always listen and share his opinion. I will really miss seeing and talking to him. Such a tragic and untimely loss.

I worked with Sean in the early to mid-90s and he always came to work with a smile on his face, even after working two jobs!  Although our careers parted, we would reconnect and pick up on conversations as if it were yesterday. I was lucky to have some non-work time with Sean on the golf course and was looking forward to sharing more rounds.  In his selfless way, he would show me the line on a putt even when we were on competing teams.

I want to thank all the people from NewYork Life for their heartfelt kind words about my brother ! The most common characteristic that you all shared about my brother was his kindness and smile  and as his brother that truly exemplified who my brother really was and I really appreciate his New York Life family for sharing your thoughts about him!
My brother as I sat with him through his chemotherapy treatment was on his laptop doing his work and talking to his coworkers while he was fighting for his life . He was always pleasant throughout his ordeal and I did not understand why he kept working but he wanted to help his coworkers when they had tech questions and or problems with some computer issues! I would tell him to ignore you guys and concentrate on himself but he couldn’t do that and now after reading some of your comments he truly thought of you guys as his extended family and Sean never let family down so that is why he did what he did ! I was always proud of my brother and his calming demeanor will be always missed by me and his family! 
As you all probably know Sean never complained about what he was going through and never an ounce of self pity or why me attitude. He was a strong man and a great father and brother! His quiet calming kind gentle soul will always be with me and I am so proud of him and how he affected so many lives in a positive way . 
On behalf of my family and myself I thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts at this most difficult time for our family.

I worked for Sean for many years, and he was without a doubt the best manager I have ever had in my 30+ year professional career.  Sean was always about supporting and elevating his employees to put them into the spotlight as much as he could. He gave you credit for your good ideas and he helped you improve on the rest.

The early days of the "CFD LanTeam" were pioneering days of computing, including swapping out 486 overdrive chips in computers after hours, troubleshooting Token Ring networks and setting up Lotus Notes servers on OS2!  These times would not have been what they were without Sean as the leader.  

During my last few years at the company, I sat near Sean's office and even though I didn't work for him at the time, I could always count on him to talk for a few minutes about some issues or provide some quick advice.

My last memory of Sean was a very gracious one, he was part of my "retirement" farewell dinner and he handled all the monetary arrangements for that event without me knowing about it until the very end of the night.

Thank you for everything Sean, it was truly my pleasure and honor to know you and work for you during those times. May you Rest In Peace my friend.

I worked with Sean on and off for many years at NYL. Whenever I met him, in a meeting or just passing by in the hallways,  he always had a cheery word to say and an infectious smile.
I know that he is in heaven now with the angels smiling down on us all ! My prayers are with his family.

What a terrible loss to the world this is. I also worked with Sean at NYL and knew him for many years. He always had a smile on his face and a laugh when he would walk over and pat me on my back. He had a laugh that was infectious.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family. I know I am richer for knowing Sean. RIP.
