Billie Ray Atchley "Pop" May 20, 1936 - April 16, 2013 After living a long, full life Pop went home to be with the Lord. He was living in Bakersfield, California with his loving wife, Virginia "Ginger" Atchley, to whom he was married a happy 53 years. Born in Bakersfield, and raised in Arvin to Charlie and Lillie Atchley, where he was greeted by 11 wonderful brothers and sisters. They enjoyed packing up and going to Huntington Lake, which is a family tradition that continues today. He served in the US Navy after graduating from Arvin High School in 1954. After marrying his wife Ginger, he worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company before he went into the insurance business under Farmers Insurance Group for 45 years, and made his way up to District Manager. Pop received many lifetime achievement awards from Farmers including their highest achievement award, Presidential Council. He also volunteered much of his time to local service organizations such as Toastmasters and the YMCA, where he held title of Kern area YMCA President. He changed and shaped the lives of his family. He raised them to be strong individuals like himself and he will always be remembered in their hearts. He is survived by his wife Ginger Atchley; his sister Lillie Belle Cain-Hines; his children Kim and Tim Honeycutt, Kyle Atchley and Kaipohooheno Warren, Kren and Chris Campbell, and Michelle and Jared Price; grandchildren Mark and Matt Calvillo, Billie and Kyle Atchley, and Alexis, Sydney, and Chase Campbell; and six great grandkids. A Service "Celebrating his life" will be at Valley Baptist Church 4800 Fruitvale Ave., Bakersfield, California at 2:00 p.m. on April 27, 2013, a Reception to follow.
