Juan Carlos Gomez

Juan Carlos Gomez, 47, of Bakersfield CA passed away on May 11, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 23,1978 in Orange, CA. Carlos lived a life filled with honor, passion towards martial arts, and love towards family and community. He was known for his fun spirit, strength, humor and jokeful nature. He touched the lives of many through friendship and mentorship.

Carlos will be lovingly remembered by his mother Maria Elena Sanchez, siblings Alfonso Gomez Sanchez, Rojelio Gomez Sanchez, Lucia Gomez Sanchez, Adriana (Mario) Villa, Adan (Nancy) Gomez, his 11 nieces, 2 nephews, and 7 grand nephews/nieces. He is preceded in death by his father Alfonso Gomez-Duran.

Those that knew Juan Carlos will remember that his second favorite superhero was Batman, because he would be the first. That he hated pumpkin pie. They will remember him dedicated to Karate, he would even say that he excelled in karate and judo and kickboxing, he was correct. They would say he was a wonderful friend and exceptional mentor to his karate students. Those who knew him as an uncle would say he was the funniest of them all and dearly loved.

Carlos was always there for me growing up. No matter where he was going- karate practice,tournaments,or working during summer breaks- he took me along without a second thought. He taught me much of what I know today and a lot of who I am is because of him. For years on Friday nights we gathered around the poker table with friends and family. Those games created countless memories and laughter that will be forever cherished. I love you brother. Thank you for everything you’ve taught me and for being there for me in times I needed. Rest in peace, you will always be missed but never forgotten. -Adan Gomez

A funeral will be held on June 16, 2026 at Funeraria Del Angel in Bakersfield CA. A Graveside service on June 17, 2026 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield
