
Aaron Melvin Cherry, 86, of Shaker Heights, Ohio (formerly of Brooklyn, NY; Chesapeake, VA; and Windsor, NC), passed away unexpectedly at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, on July 28, 2025. A veteran of the United States Air Force, and retired Vice President of Telecommunications at Salomon Brothers, an investment banking firm in New York City, Aaron will be remembered for his devotion to family, generosity, and resilience. He was preceded in death in 2018 by his beloved wife, Joyce Novella Gunthrop. He is survived by his five children and their partners, Jeffrey (Molly), Pamela (Gary), April (Andre), Laura (Damien), and Caron (Wesley); four grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth, Olivia Brooke (Raven), Jackson Porter (Rebecca), and Delaney Grace; siblings Elmo and Debra; sister-in-law Delores; and many other relatives and friends.
There will be a brief graveside service at 10:00am on September 27, 2025 at Druid Ridge Cemetery, 7900 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore Maryland, 21208. After this service, the ashes of both Aaron and Joyce will be interred together.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Aaron’s memory to the Duke Cancer Center, American Heart Association, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Parkinson’s Foundation, or Caring House in Durham, NC.
The family will host a reception in celebration of Aaron’s life immediately after the service at Nick’s Fish House, 2600 Insulator Drive, Baltimore, Maryland, 21230.
