

Betty Jane Phillips passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 96. Betty enjoyed a number of activities throughout her life that brought her fulfillment and routine. She had a strong interest in duckpin bowling and spent many years participating in the sport. She was also a longtime member of the Crestmont Club, where she regularly took part in club activities and gatherings.
During her working career, Betty was employed by Maryland Casualty as a key puncher. She remained in this role for many years and took pride in her work.
Betty enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Germany, a trip she remembered fondly. She also spent time in Ocean City, Maryland, a destination she enjoyed returning to over the years.
Betty will be remembered for the life she lived and the experiences she shared with those around her.
Betty is the beloved wife of the late Marvin Phillips; mother of Judy Emery and her husband Terry and the late Jackie Lee Phillips; cherished Mom Mom of Nicholas Emery. Betty is the last of the 13 children of John W. Smoot and Gay Lola Reeder Smoot. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
A Celebration of Betty's Life is being planned.
