

He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Jean Kallman (nee Loosemore), they were married on Feb 24, 1962 for 54 years; devoted father of Benita Kallman (of Perry Hall, MD), Deanna Medlin (her husband Kenneth of Dundalk, MD), and Redena Lesley (her husband Ivan of Kerrville, TX); cherished grandfather of Hannah, Daniel, Bryan, Jessica, Kenneth, David, Alexander, Johnathan, Helen and Florence; loving great-grandfather of Griffin, Ellie, Addy, Donavan, and Wyatt; and his dear brother, Larry Laraby in Green Bay, WI.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents Herbert A. Kallman and Gertrude Laraby (Nee Oliver), and his sister Mildred and brothers James, David and Ronald.
As a teen, Herb worked for a girl’s camp in Michigan taking care of the horses. Herb entered the United States Army in May 1958 where he completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Carson, CO. He was sent to Kornwestheim, Germany in 1958, then to Fort Holabird, MD in 1960 where he met and married Barbara Loosemore. Herb, along with his wife and daughter, was then transferred to Ft Wainwright, Alaska in 1963. They then had two more daughters. He was Honorably Discharged in April 1964. Herb worked as a Fire Fighter and EMT, Fire Inspector, Airport Security in Fairbanks, AK. The family moved to Maryland in 1979. Herb worked as a Carpenter, Forklift Driver and Machine Operator, Realtor, chimney sweep in Dundalk, MD. He owned two businesses with the help of his wife: Pen and Quill Business Accounting, in AK and Black Cat Chimney Sweep, in MD. Herb enjoyed playing Santa for his granddaughters’ girl scouts and his grandsons’ cub scouts that he employed as a mall Santa for 12 years, from MD to NJ, FL, OK. He enjoyed working with his hands that he was always fixing up and remodeling his houses. He has enjoyed the Renaissance Fairs, that he was employed at the Medieval Times Dinner Theater for a few years. He has always enjoyed vegetable gardening and growing flowers at all his residences in AK, MD, FL and TX.
A Memorial Service for Herb will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11AM at New Life Baptist Church, 5501 Lloyd Ave. White Marsh, MD 21162. A luncheon will follow.
