We met John while stationed in Holy Loch (Dunoon) Scotland in 1977, aboard the USS Holland AS-32.
My first thanksgiving meal that I made included him. I was pregnant with our first child, now 42 years old. We had several of the single guys at for a traditional meal. There was 12 of us, including another couple. We repeated this again the following year also.
We loved John, he was a great guy. He even dated one of our native friends from East Kilbride, Scotland. He brought me his albums to record on cassettes for easier listening as he lived aboard the ship. We were deeply saddened to hear of his premature passing!
He knew he was welcomed to hang at our home whenever he wanted to. Sadly, we Lost touch when we transferred in Dec 1978, stateside.

John was an amazing human being. Every time he saw me he was like “Maria, my day just got better cause I saw you” he knew how to make you feel special. He brought from home (his garden) some oregano plants for me cause he knew I also had a herbs and veggie garden but I didn’t have oregano. So he brought some for me. He got me and my co-worker bright colors shirts one day. That’s who he was. Someone that was always thinking about everyone else. He was so excited about this foot massager he bought from amazon for his birthday that he came to work and told me how awesome it was that I should buy one. He used to talked about his neighbors. Actually the neighbors kids. He really enjoyed spending time with them and I can keep going,,, He was jus an amazing human being and will be Missed. Rest In Peace John for now. I will see you soon
