On October 11, 2017 Joseph John Cimino, who joined the Navy at 19, was a barber in the officers’ barbershop on board the USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier for 5 years. Noted Baltimore barber for over 65 years. Joe loved being a barber. He was a platform training artist for many years, as well as being an inspector on the barber board. He enjoyed telling stories about the many famous customers he had throughout the years. One of the funniest stories was about a customer who wanted him to cut the words “Vodka Tonic, No Lime” into the back of his hair. Joe told him that his head wasn’t big enough, and he should find a new drink! He also used to laugh about the time one of his customers was arrested for a bank robbery while Joe was cutting his hair. The customer was more concerned about getting the haircut completed than about going to jail!! Joe was a good guy and couldn’t pass up anyone in need. He used to carry shoes around in the trunk of his car to give to the homeless he saw downtown. He was recognized as one of Baltimore’s Best for giving haircuts to individuals who were out of work during the 80’s. Joe had three loves: his wife Jane; daughter Tracy and shooting craps. If Joe had a motto it would be, “Always bet the 6 & 8”! Those of us who are really close to him always feel that Frank Sinatra’s song, “My Way”, pretty much represents Joe. Rock on Silver Fox! We would very much like to specifically acknowledge Dr. Aaron Rapoport for guiding us to the Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center at the University of Maryland where we were so wonderfully treated by Dr. Arif Hussain and his caring and knowledgeable team. Dr. Howard Berg and Dr. Richard Meshulam were very instrumental in Joe being diagnosed immediately. Much Love and appreciation is being sent to Dr. Allen Maurice Friedman for assisting the Angles of Gilchrist Hospice throughout Joe’s home hospice care. We loved your Sunday house call with your stethoscope in the pocket of your cargo shorts. Special thanks should be given to Matt Gavin who was so helpful in Joe’s care. Without the love and support of Tracy and Daryl, none of this could have been possible. Joe had 2 children from a previous marriage, Elizabeth and Joseph.
Family will receive friends at the Burgee-Henss-Seitz Funeral Home, Inc. 3631 Falls Road Balto., MD 21211 on Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
A Celebration of Mass will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
