On the evening of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., Judith “Judy” Ann Atkinson left this world at the age of 74. Born on February 25, 1951, Judy grew up in the close-knit community of Medfield, where she created a lifetime of memories rooted in love, laughter, and family.
Judy is the beloved wife of Ronald Atkinson Sr. for a wonderful 55 years. Together they raised their three sons, Ronald Atkinson Jr and wife Christine, Jeffery Atkinson and Timothy Atkinson and wife Shannon. Who went on to raise her four grandchildren Allyson, Logan, Cody and Sophie Atkinson. Judy is the daughter of the late Jack and Peggy Hurley and has two siblings, Jack Hurley and Joyce Trigger. She is also survived by many sibling in-laws, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Her life was filled with the things she loved most — both big and small. She was happiest with a Diet Coke or a Coors Light in hand, a puzzle on the table, and a pack of candy corn or chocolate-covered cherries nearby. She adored her animals, especially her late cat Leo, and left behind her kitten, Minnie.
Judy loved to laugh, play, and celebrate with those she held dear. She found joy in bowling, throwing darts, playing cards and poker, singing karaoke, visiting the casino, and going on cruises. Just as often, she could be found tending her garden, sewing, knitting, or ironing. She also cherished quiet moments—curled up in her pajamas with a good romance novel, watching Lifetime or true crime shows, or enjoying a scary movie.
Judy had a special gift for making every holiday memorable, but fall and Halloween held a special place in her heart. She took joy in decorating, celebrating with family, and cherishing the little traditions that made those moments shine. Her home was a warm, welcoming space filled with singing animal toys, Elvis tunes, spoon collections, whispered secrets, and the laughter of those she loved most. She enjoyed classic films like Dirty Dancing, West Side Story, and A Christmas Story, and she was always up for a good laugh—especially when it came to the sometimes inappropriate humor of South Park or Jeff Dunham’s comedy.
Whether she was dancing, spending time at the family’s West Virginia cabin, or simply enjoying a quiet night with her puzzles, Judy lived life her way. She was vibrant, funny, and the life of the party, and her memory will continue to bring smiles and laughter to all who knew her.
Judy leaves behind not only her family but also a legacy of love, humor, and warmth that will be carried forward in every story shared and every memory cherished.
The family will receive friends in the Burgee-Henss-Seitz Funeral Home, 3631 Falls Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21211 on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 & 14, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Judy’s life will be celebrated at the funeral home on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 6 PM.
