Maria and I met at the School of Social Work in Baltimore.

We had so many adventures together,  we laughed,  we shared,  we connected.  We were partners in the SGA. I remember we traveled to St Louis together for a Student Government conference. 

Maria was so expressive,  joyful,  and confident.  I have missed her since leaving Baltimore in 2008, and miss her so much more knowing our chapter ended in 2010. I miss you Maria. 

Maria was a very special counsulor for myself and my class in A+ and Net+. If it wasn't for Maria doing a lot of paper to help us out. May God have special place in heaven for Maria.

I am so sorry to know that Maria passed away.  I only just checked online today to look her up, since we hadn't talked in about 5 years, and I wanted to call her.  Life just gets so busy, and I am sorry that so much time passed since catching up with my friend.  Maria and I were friends in college, worked at a camp together one summer, and both started our earliest social work days at Heritage Nursing Center.  Maria read at my wedding almost 16 years ago.  We lost touch, which is easy to do in our busy lives, and Maria was sure busy with her passion toward social work!  In the years that I spent either at school or work with Maria, I would say she was always kind and thoughtful, and very smart!  I think she had the entire university directory committed to memory, which helped when she worked at campus information!  I remember the little things, such as that she liked beets because they were earthy, and she was a true Marylander because she could enjoy a soft shell crab sandwich.  Maria was such a true and unassuming friend, I think she would be shy about all the positive entries in this guest book, about how she touched so many lives with her generous spirit.  I will miss getting another chance to talk to Maria, but if ever there could be an angel in Heaven, she is one.  My condolences to her family and loved ones.  God bless!!

I had the pleasure of working with Maria through my job at Baltimore HealthCare Access. She was unbelievably passionate about the families that she worked with. She did everything possible to make sure her clients were linked to prenatal care and health insurance. She definitely kept us on our toes. She will be greatly missed in the public health community. I was very sad to learn about Maria's death today. I met Maria through my work at Baltimore HealthCare Access and we maintained a professional relationship. I even had a chance to speak with her about our similar professional goals and she was open to sharing her personal story with me. I recently referred a student to Maria who shared her passion of working with women around family planning and pregnancy. Of course, she shared her "great spirit". She was very passionate about social work and was indeed a blessing to the field, her colleagues, and those aspiring to be social workers. As a matter of fact, I spoke to her last month. Maria, you will be missed. May the Lord comfort your family and friends in this time.

Foula and Irene, you have my sincere condolences. I am truly sorry that I missed the funeral. I will cherish her friendship and her memory.  She will be missed. God bless you all.

To Maria's family.  Words cannot express the depth to which Maria will be missed here at Druid.  She knew that she had a home where she was safe and that her coworkers and friends cared about her well being. Maria was loved for both her kindness and her tenacity especially when she was advocating for her clients. She is an angel now and can watch over her two babies the way she had planned. I will miss her deeply. Maria was my friend.

Maria inspired me and taught me so much about the type of social worker I aspire to be.  Maria always took care of her clients before anyone else and she will be missed by hundreds of people who she served at the Health Department and the numerous other places she served during her lifetime.  Maria was the person people knew they could turn to when nobody else would give them the time of day or when others simply saw them as inferior human beings.  Maria was the person who advocated for the defenseless, who always saw the good in people and gave them hope for a brighter future.  I have worked in various places around the world and worked with people all my life.  Of the people I have met, I can think of very few (only a few nuns and priests) who were as compassionate, understanding, empathetic, supportive, loving, open-minded, faithful and forgiving as Maria.  We all miss Maria.  I never knew how sad I could be for the loss of a friend until Maria’s passing.  However, I believe Maria is in a better place, a place where she belongs and a place where she will continue to pray for us.
