Dean Kelly Schmaus

Passed away on September 15, 2019

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Dean Kelly Schmaus on September 15, 2019 at age 43 in Los Angeles, California. Dean spent most of his life in and around Barrhead Alberta. Left to mourn are Deans children Hunter, Hannah and Lincoln, parents Gene and Alice Schmaus, sister Jody (Mike) Martin, niece Calleigh and nephew Parker and loving partner Melissa Brade (Ariel and Amber) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Dean had a great love for his family and cherished the time they spent together, especially when it involved the outdoors. Dean loved action and adventure. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and boating on the river. Dean was a gifted athlete and loved to compete in all sports. Dean was a skilled tradesman and a hard worker. Dean had an energy that even with just one encounter, you would remember him for life. If you knew him well or barely at all, he always left an impression. Despite all the good, Dean struggled to navigate the turns life sent his way and was unable to regain his path. Dean will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. Please join us in a celebration of life service to remember and honour Dean on Saturday, September 28, at Barrhead Alliance Church at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a trust fund for Dean’s children has been set up at the Barrhead ATB. Alternatively, donations in memory of Dean can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

To Gene, Alice and family,
There are no words to express our sympathy to you and your family at this time. We didn't know Dean personally but what a blessing he must have been to all of you in those short years - so athletic, talented and gifted in so many ways. We can't understand the loss, but we pray that God gives you the strength and peace to carry you through and to ease the pain each and every day. We love you guys and hope that the support of friends and family will help you manage, as well. May God Bless you all. Our deepest condolences. Really, no words....
Glenn (cousin to Gene) & Shirley (friend & roommate to Alice - Alice was also our bridesmaid - thank you!)

Gene, Alice and Jody,
Words cannot express the grief I know you are feeling right now and I join you in your pain. I recall all the hockey games and school experiences our two sons had together. Dean had such a good heart, was a great athlete and a wonderful role model for those who played sports with him. My deepest sympathy to your family and Dean's children. God be with you always.
Much love, Edie Yuill
