Douglas Peter Gibb

August 14, 1920 — May 23, 2022 (Aged 101)

Born on a farm near Dunstable, Alberta, Douglas was as devoted a farmer as he was a spouse, family member, and friend.

Douglas is survived by his loving family: his son and daughter-in-law (Duane and Patricia Gibb) and grandsons (Jevon, Jorey, Jacey) as well as numerous family and friends. He is predeceased by his previous spouses (Joan Clarkson and Beatrice Farrants), parents (Georgina Slora and Alexander George Gibb), and siblings (Alex Gibb, Elsie McKee, Muriel Harris, Jim Gibb, Jack Gibb, George Gibb, Barbara Thompson, Betty Lindquist).

Douglas Gibb achieved more in 101 years than most of us would hope to accomplish given twice that length of time. He often said he wanted to live to 100, so naturally he accomplished that too.

Douglas had a sly humour, often paired with a smirk. He was dedicated, compassionate, and a cornerstone of any community he was part of. He was a natural storyteller, where even towards the end when he couldn’t remember what he’d had for lunch, he could still recite who lived on each homestead within a 40-km radius of the farm.

We hope there are harmonicas, cowboy hats, and card games in heaven.

Join us in celebrating the life of Douglas Gibb on Friday, June 24th at 1 p.m. at Rose Garden Chapel in Barrhead. Lunch and burial to follow.
