Florence Lorraine Wallace

January 11, 1934 – May 2, 2017

With sadness, her family announces that Florence Wallace of Barrhead, AB passed away on the morning of May 2, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Born Florence Rettie in Barrhead and raised in the Tiger Lily district, she became a longtime teacher and principal at Manola and Barrhead, , partner in the Wallace family farm, beloved wife, mother of three and grandmother of four. Florence was loved by her family and many friends in the United Church and the community for her kindness, her sense of humour, and her commitment to a life of service to others.

She was predeceased by her husband Robin Wallace in 2011; by father Lorne and mother Miriam; and by sister Grace and brother Lorne. She is survived by sons Les (Shirley) of Edmonton, Bruce (Joanne) of Barrhead, and Ian (Susan) of Sherwood Park; by grandchildren Geoffrey, Ashlee, Frances and Claire; and by brother Clayton.

Special thanks to Dr. Krantz for his capable and compassionate care in her final illness.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM Monday June 12, 2017 from Barrhead United Church. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The Lung Association or to another charity of the giver’s choice.
