Harold Mack Stewart

April 11, 1926 – May 19, 2012

Harold M. Stewart passed away peacefully on May 19, 2012; at the Barrhead Health Care Centre with is family by his side. He has entered heaven after a 2 month struggle with an aggressive brain tumor. He faced this difficult challenge in his life with courage, faith, and dignity – an inspiration to everyone.

He was born on April 11th, 1926 at Lion’s Head, Ontario, the 8th of 13 children. He attended Swan Lake Public School and subsequently spent one year in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1945. He then worked as a commercial fisherman and later attended Emmanuel Bible College where he met his wife, Carol. They were married in 1950, and entered the Pastoral ministry in 1954. He served in ministry throughout Ontario and Alberta for almost 60 years. After a brief retirement in 1991, he accepted a call to pastor the Barrhead Church of God. For the next 20 years he served the church, first as senior pastor for 9 years and then as Pastor to Seniors up until the time of his passing.

He is lovingly remembered by Carol, his beloved wife of 61 years, and his four children; Dr. Sharon (Wayne) Moore, Glenna Stewart Phippen, Laura (Barry) Krieger, Rev. Roger (Vicki) Stewart, and Bernie (Bev) Whealy (Carol’s youngest brother who joined our family at age 5). Also leaving to mourn his passing are his 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his 4 sisters. Harold was predeceased by his parents and 8 brothers.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Doctor Tawfik and Doctor Azzi, and all the wonderful nursing and support staff of the Barrhead Health Centre, as well as to Regional Palliative Care Nurse, Amy Regnier, for their gentle and loving care of our father and husband.

A Home-going Service will be held on Friday, May 25th, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Barrhead United Church located at 5102 60 Street Barrhead, AB with Rev. Ryan Sturge, Rev. Ben Chandler, and Rev. John Campbell officiating.
