John "Jack" Luckwell Fearon

John was predeceased by wife, Marjorie (Dolly); sister, Gloria; brother in law, Richard Garratt; brother, David and parents, John and Myrtle Fearon.

He was lovingly supported by nieces, Jane Anderson, (California); Linda (Paul) Kurytnik (Calgary); and Buck Eden (Barrhead). A special thank you to the extraordinary love, support and caring shown by companions Mae Diesel, Kelly Kelly and Eileen Reschke who provided many adventures, new experiences and laughs.

He is survived by sisters, Rose-Marie and Corrine; brother, Robert and many nieces and nephews.

John's goal as he moved into his 90’s was to have fun. Much of the success in attaining this goal can be attributed to his “harem” of companions who enabled and facilitated this wish. From discovering fancy coffee, having picnics, getting massages, attending car shows, rodeos and parades John did it all. He experienced his first pizza, first latte, first massage, and recommitted to his love of milkshakes- all flavours.

John was born in Seattle Washington in 1928 (the same year as Mickey Mouse, a fact he was most proud of). He re-migrated to Canada with his father John and brother Bob in 1932. They were reunited with mother Myrtle and sister Rosemary, settling in the Bonnie Doon area of Edmonton. This is where he first met Dolly Porter. The family remained in Edmonton until moving to the Peavine farm in 1947, just as John was completing Agricultural College in Vermillion.

John always planned on farming, but a friendship with George Cheetham found him working the new oil and gas fields (selling tanks) for Maloney Crawford. He would work in Drayton Valley, Virden and Montana before purchasing an oilfield construction company with George's encouragement.

In doing this he discovered a new passion- CAT skinning! This remained a passion his entire life and he often felt he was better at that than anything else. His entertaining (and true) stories of opening up the north country and clearing cut lines using only the North star as a guide forged lifelong friendships with many. During this time he met his new accountant, and soon to be lifelong friend Dan Levesage (Alice). At the time of his passing they had remained steady friends for over 60 years.

In 1968 John came down from the north to transition from construction to farming. He became re-aquainted with childhood friend Dolly Porter and they were married. They choose to live on Dolly's farm and this is where John would live for the next 48 years. Dolly and John proved to be both great business as well as life partners. Many memories were made at this farm for nieces Jane and Linda, nephew Tom and for neighbour Buck Eden. When Buck was born John recognized a kindred spirit and a lifelong friendship was forged.

Since moving from the farm to Hillcrest, and then to Keir care John has embraced many firsts. He returned to his more easy-going roots, and his last 3 years have been filled with more laughter and reminiscing, mushroom cheeseburgers, and road trips (often down memory lane). He kept his quirky sense of humour and sharp wit to the end. He enjoyed people and started to have the easy fun of his youth with the staff and co- residents who kindly referred to him as “ Papa John”, a nickname given to him years ago by Barbara (Ion) Almost.

Special thanks to “Miss G” , coresident whose friendship brightened his days with fun filled companionship.

Uncle J was pivotal in our lives and we will miss him greatly. His love and support of us all has been appreciated at each crossroads we have faced. We wish you happy farming with Dolly. May you have green pastures, calm cows, good crops, no hail and just enough rain.

We love you

Jane, Linda, Paul,Buck
