I am Ramola Balachandra. My husband, Christopher, and I emigrated from India in 1966. In 1967 we started teaching for the Pembina Hills School District in Barrhead. I continued teaching after my husband passed away in 1989. I taught for 35 years before I retired and moved to Edmonton in 2004. I wanted to be close to my grandchildren Christopher and Jordon. My daughter Mary Fithen (Kevin Sparrow) lives in Edmonton. My son Ron (Terry Cadman) lives in Calgary and my youngest, Mervin (Marissa Fernandez) lives in Australia. In India, I have my siblings, Dolly, Noel, and Joyce, as well as many relatives and friends. I also have a very loving second family from my late husband’s side here in Canada.
I was challenged to experience non-smoker’s lung cancer since December 2006 until now. I could not have faced my long, physical, and emotional journey without the energy and support of my loving families and many, many wonderful friends. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Love you all.
Time to graduate and say goodbye!
