October 10, 1927 – April 15, 2013
Theresa “Terry” Mary Juba was the oldest child of Alvah and Lee Shaffer of Johnson, Missouri, USA, and Maria Alice Aurelie “Alice” Marty of Aveyron, France. Theresa was born October 10, 1927 in Fribourg, St. Paul, Alberta. She spent the first 16 years of her life on a farm in and around Bonnyville, Alberta. A little red-haired figure, she loved berry picking and fish with her sister, Clara and her brother, Arthur. Life was hard during the 30’s and 40’s and seeking independence and a better life she left to work with her Uncle Eloi Marty, who owned a dry cleaners in Edmonton. Four years later, she met a handsome striking man, William “Bill” Juba, still in his WWII army uniform, at a local dance and what an accomplished dancer he was! They married in June 1947 and had five children. Life was still a struggle but music, dancing, gardening, canning, reading the never ending mystery novels, and bingo made life tolerable. Her gardening and canning ensured through the most difficult times that there was food for her family.
Terry and Bill worked in Foster Care for more than 40 years. Many foster children made their home with them during that time. The purchase of Barrhead Dry Cleaners by Terry and Bill, some of 40 years ago, instigated their move to Barrhead. 11 years after the death of Bill, Juba in 1995, she married Bill George and once again dancing and Bingo was a highlight of her life.
We mourn her passing but prefer to remember her as a tiny person with red hair swirling, dancing amongst the stars to country and western music with her first love, Bill.
Left to enjoy her memories are her children, Betty-Anne Juba-Wheating (Byron), Terry Alice Croft (Kerry), and Rick James Juba (Julie); sibling, Paul Galway (Audrey); sister-in-law, Barbra Schaffer (Arthur); eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and many, many cousins. Theresa is predeceased by her parents, Alice in 1983 and Alvah in 1998; siblings, Clara Shaffer in 1953, Arthur Joseph Schaffer in 2013; sons, Anthony Thomas Juba in 1950; William John Joseph “Bill” Juba in 1981; husbands, William “Bill” Juba in 1984 and William Robert “Bill” George in 1996; and grandson, Christopher William Juba in 1985. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barrhead, AB. Interment was followed in the Barrhead Community Cemetery.
