My family has known Buddy, Sandra and Cody for over 40 years. I grew up with Cody until we both went to high school. Early on in our families' friendship, someone came up with nicknames for us - the "Farkels" for my family (I believe this came from a tv comedy "Laugh-In" in the early 70s) and the "Munchkins" for Buddy, Sandra and Cody. If you've ever seen them, the name makes perfect sense. They are small, cute and like... well munchkins. The nicknames stuck and were a source of many laughs over the years. During those early years, I sensed something about Buddy and Sandra that was comforting and reassuring. It was like they were almost a second set of parents. Buddy, to my recollection, was a man who didn't talk excessively. He was on the quiet side. His words seemed to relay a sense of calmness, reassurance and gentleness. He enjoyed a good laugh and shared his feelings with those that he cared about. His smile was always just waiting under the surface of his expression, whatever he was going through. His warmth, kindness and generosity of spirit will always reside in my heart. Just last summer, my father, one of Buddy's oldest friends, passed away. During my father's many illnesses and stays in hospital, Buddy was one of the few people to visit my father. Although they moved apart over the years, both in distance and contact, Buddy still maintained a love for my father that lasted until the end. He wrote a touching eulogy recalling some memories of their friendship and was kind enough to share that at my dad's funeral. I have his words from then and will cherish them along with my memories of Alfred "Buddy" Rogers, my Munchkin dad. I love you and wish you eternal peace. The moment you arrived in Heaven, I hope my Dad was there waiting to give you a long overdue "Farkel" hug.
