Aubrey Gene Sullivan- better known as AG or Sully- passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. He was born into a large family in Eudora, Mississippi in 1933 as the oldest of five children born to Aubrey and Frances Sullivan.
Sully always had a deep desire to see the world. The Air Force afforded him this opportunity taking him from Texas, to Resolution Point in Alaska, Wyoming, and all the way across the Pacific during the Korean War. His thirty-five years working in communications with Southwestern Bell satisfied this wanderlust by offering him and his family the unique opportunity of moving to exotic places such as Alaska and Guam. It also granted him a meeting with a beautiful young switchboard operator who would later become his wife, Velma. They were married in August of 1954. Together, they raised their beloved Mike and Suzie in Covington, Tennessee. After moving back from Guam to the Southeast in Arkansas and later Bartlett, Tennessee, Sully settled into life as a grandparent. He still loved to travel and would often visit family in Nashville, across Mississippi, and in Charleston, SC. Some of his grandchildren’s favorite memories are with him and Velma onth Lake Conway in Arkansas and at the beach in the Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
Sully loved to hunt, golf, fish, listen to Jerry Clower, wear a pocket-shirt, and find a bargain. He had a kind, affable demeanor and loved a good joke.
He leaves behind his wife Velma of almost 71 years; daughter-in-law Beverly Harris; son-in-law Keith Liberty; grandchildren Les (Tonyia), Michael Paul (Jennifer), Amy (Ian), and Annalise (Brett); and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Michael Harper Harris, daughter SuzAnne Sullivan Liberty, and great-grandson Roth Cook.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 7th at 2:00 pm.
Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN, 38133.
