Heaven welcomed a precious soul on September 7, 2020 when Barbara Ann Halfacre passed into Glory. Barbara was born on July 16, 1933 to William Albert Breining and Vera Nina Burford Breining in Forrest City, Arkansas. She was the youngest of three children. She had two older siblings, Vera and Bill. When Barbara was very young, they moved to Memphis, Tennessee where her father was a Baker for the Baptist Hospital. Barbara graduated from Messick High School, Class of 1952. She was invited by a friend of hers to go on a double date in 1954 where she met a handsome, young man, Earl Gray Halfacre. Just a few months later, they traveled to Hernando, Mississippi where they eloped. She was 21 and Earl was 22. Earl was an electrician and they set up housekeeping in various locations—Louisville, Kentucky, Baltimore, Maryland and Memphis, Tennessee. Several years later, they conceived one daughter, Terry Lynn, who they loved dearly. They enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling and playing cards and games with family and friends. They purchased a home in Scenic Hills out in Raleigh (a suburb north of Memphis, Tennessee) where they lived for many years on Ramill Road. They purchased 55 acres of land in Pocahontas, Tennessee in the late 60’s and enjoyed spending time there hunting, fishing, gardening, raising pigs and entertaining on the weekends. Later, they also purchased lakefront property on Tompkins Lake in Shelby Forrest, Tennessee where they were intending to build a cedar home on the lake after retirement, but that never came into fruition.

Barbara was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She organized and prepared many elaborate dinner parties throughout the years. She was full of fun and her joyous laughter was infectious! Barbara had a lively, outgoing, happy personality and she was so loved by her family and friends. Her sweet smile could light up the room.

In 1967, after taking 10 years off to raise their daughter, Barbara went back to work and was employed by Plough, Inc. which later became Schering-Plough, Inc. from where she retired.

Her retirement years were spent traveling. She lived with her sister, Vera, for many years in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Then, in 2015, Barbara moved to Kentucky to be with her daughter, Terry Lynn, and son-in-law, Frank. She was her daughter’s constant companion, traveling buddy and Canasta opponent.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry Lynn Crane-Crabtree, Son-In-Law, Frank Crabtree, her grandson, James Garner, III, his wife, Angie Garner, grandson, Raymond (Tray) Eberle, III, one great-Granddaughter, Sofia Grace Garner, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Barbara will long be remembered for her loving, giving and fun-loving nature, her kindness, warmth, sweet smile and jovial laughter. Barbara was the essence of love embodied. While we will miss her more than words can convey, we take great comfort in knowing that she is now in the loving arms of Jesus, that she is now reunited with many of her loved ones and that we, too, will be reunited with her again someday. Rest In Peace, sweet soul.

Ah, Barbara, and the battle of the futons when you stayed with me and MollyMae! Terry and I ran out to the store and found you in the exact same spot because I had removed the four pillars to lower the futon height, and you could not rise up on your own! I was so happy that we were able to cruise out of Tampa together. Yolanda sends her love to you! MollyMae fell in love with you and kept laying down at your feet. Funny little basset hound! You are missed. Until we meet again. Hugs, PattiAnn, and MollyMae.

Coming from a family of six children and having an aunt like Aunt Barbara was a great childhood experience. She always gave each one of us the utmost time and attention when we all visited my Grandmother's house. She loved to laugh which is so important in this life.

Aunt Barbara - kind and faithful - we will see you in the next life. .

Take care, Terry Lynn.

Your loving 1st cousin,
Pam Halfacre Bearden

Ours hearts go out to the family. Aunt Barbara’s loving spirit, infectious laughter, and commitment to family will always be among our special memories.

We are so sorry we could not be there. Between dodging Covid pandemic, Dad being in the hospital, and Chuck’s unusual condition I am unable to break away.

Just know we love you all.
