Betty Jo Buyer, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 6, 2020. For believers in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. He traced her conversion to Christ back to a Billy Graham Crusade she attended in Memphis as a teenager and was a lifetime supporter of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade. She is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Buyer and three sons, Stephen Roger Buyer, Michael Vernon, and Joseph Vernon Buyer. She is survived by six children, Benjamin F. Buyer IV (Mary), Charles A. Buyer, Linda Speck (Mickey), Matthew G. Buyer (Sharron), Nathan Buyer (Debra) and Robert “Bobby” Tillman. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Charles Buyer, Jr., Candace Buyer, Melanie Starks, Heather Papageorgeon, Amber Wideman (Zach), Sarah Fagan (Austin), Ethan Buyer (Megan), Benjamin J. Buyer, and Ashley Buyer and ten great-grandchildren.
She was born in Memphis and graduated from Messick High School. Being an avid reader and desiring to grow her academic horizon, later in life she went to college and in 1997 she graduated from the University of Memphis with a B.S. Degree.
We are grateful to the staff at Applingwood Healthcare Center and particularly to Momma’s long-time friend, Sherry Flanigan. We are also grateful to Ford Williams for serving as minister for the funeral service.
Memorials may be sent to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade or to Reformed University Fellowshipp.
