Betty died on September 4, 2018 in Memphis, TN after a long battle with Dementia. Betty was born September 26, 1933 to Chester Charles Hart, Sr and Cornelia May Hart. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Lindsey Massie, Jr (Pete) in 2017 and her brother Chester Charles Hart, Jr. Survived by a sister Jean Camille Hart Fraim of Knoxville TN. Betty is also survived by her three children Steven Stuart Massie (Paula), Connie Hart Mott (Eric), and Diana Agee. Seven grandchildren Rebecca Phillips, Thomas Massie, Lindsey Agee, Sean Massie, Zachary Agee, Emily Mott and Kendall Agee and a great grandchild Mary Glenn Phillips.
Betty grew up in Louisville, KY graduated Atherton High School and attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was named Phi Kappa Tau Sweetheart. Betty and her husband “Pete” lived in Jackson, MS, Memphis, TN, Spokane, WA and Huntington, W. VA. before moving back to Louisville in 1967. While living in Louisville she was an active member of Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, The Junior League of Louisville and DAR. In 1975 Betty and her family moved to Lincolnshire, IL when her husband was promoted within Commerce Clearing House. While living in Lincolnshire Betty was an active member of Deerfield Presbyterian Church and was involved in the Women’s ministry. She held a leadership role in P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) and sat on the board of The Riverside Foundation.
Family and friends were important to Betty. She enjoyed cooking for everyone where her smile and laughter would fill the room. Some of her favorite moments in life where spending summers on Long Lake in Traverse City, Michigan with Pete and all her grandchildren.
A private burial will be held at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Ky on October 6th, 2018. The family request donations to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
