Billy was a great person to work with. I found him to be very compassionate and sensitive individual who woul be the first to help you in anything you were attempting to do.  I really appreciated Billy's knowledge and skills. He made his contribution to society by just being Billy.

I had the privilege of working with Billy when I first started at Texaco in 1988 until he retired. I even had the pleasure of planning Big Time's retirement party which wasn't an easy task as everything had to be just right and had to be a BIG TIME!  Hopefully, it was big enough and lived up to his expectations.  I have great memories of him and am thankful for his friendship. He and Charlyne opened up their home to us on many occasions, and I was always in awe of their home at Christmas. I had never seen so many yard decorations or a Christmas village of that magnitude in anyone's home. His movie collection was as big as a video store, and we would tease him that the upstairs might cave in as a result. He earned the nickname "Big Time" honestly and did everything BIG.  I enjoyed him talking and bragging about his kids and grandkids, and loved how his face lit up just talking about them. He was a loyal family man, company man, and friend. My prayers are that God comforts Charlyne and all of the Russell family and the incredible memories of Billy sustain you in the coming days. I know that Heaven has gotten a heckuva lot funnier and much bigger with Billy there.

I worked for Bill Russell with Texaco in the Memphis District.  He was absolutely the best boss I ever had by far and away.  He brought integrity, honesty and a positive attitude in all that we did.  He pushed us hard and made us better than we ever thought we could be.  I'll remember him always for his caring about those who worked for him.  He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.  My condolences go out to his entire family.

It was my pleasure to have worked with Billy as my career with Texaco was beginning. I will never forget his wit, wisdom, and warmth.  He was a friend and mentor. May God rest him. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Condolences from the Ewing family. Our father Hick Ewing Sr. coached Billy at South Side High. As a young boy I looked up to him and the other Scrapper greats. He was a great athlete, whom our Dad thought of very highly. He following Bill's career over the years. I was grateful to talk to Billy some years ago by telephone and catch up. Stump, Michael and I are so sorry to read of the passing of your dad. May warm memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.

There are so many happy memories of times spent with BT and Charlyne.  From the first time I met them, I was welcomed into their home.  I could not begin to count the number of baseball and football games where we sat together - hundreds of games. Our many holidays together were wonderful - especially at Thanksgiving time, and the resurrecting of the Christmas Village!  I was treated as a beloved daughter - and that never changed with BT.
