Carmen was born on March 19, 1935, to Charles and Marie (Rutar) Dobrovsky living in a farmhouse in Burwell, Nebraska. Her family moved to Ord, NE where she graduated from Ord High School. Carmen was married in 1957 and had three daughters, Sandra, Roxane, and Melany.
She completed Business School in Omaha, NE. After that, she worked as a secretary for a couple trucking companies in Omaha, Bartlett Pest Control and Hayes Forrester Collection Agency in Memphis, TN. Later Carmen also attended truck driving school in Murfreesboro, TN where she learned to drive 18-wheel semi-trucks. Carmen retired from the Federal Express Technical Information Center in Memphis, TN.
Carmen was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing, painting, and carpentry work. These talents she learned from her father. She also enjoyed sewing, a skill she learned from her mother. Carmen sewed the bridesmaid’s dresses for two of her daughters’ weddings. Her artistic ability also included decorating Christmas floats and cakes for special occasions. She also enjoyed taking care of plants and flowers. Carmen had a soft heart for animals. Throughout her life she adored her dogs, racoons, rabbits, gerbils, guinea birds, horses, chickens, peacocks, iguana, pheasants, mallard ducks, and cats. Some of her most cherished pets were the dog Hank, and the cat Unalesca.
She enjoyed time with her family and traveling. Some of her most memorable trips included visiting Florida, Colorado, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Rome Italy.
She considered her core value in life to always tell the truth and be honest.
Survivors include her daughters; Sandra (Michael) Bogard of Dickson, TN, Roxane (Christopher) Stewart of Memphis, TN, and Melany Setlik of Millington, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Carruthers, Christopher Stewart Jr., Ronny Roberson, Sydney (Wyatt) Mabry, and Paige Bogard; great-grandchildren, Malcolm III, Jasmine, and Ava Carruthers, and Rylan and Anthony Roberson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Marie Dobrovsky, and a granddaughter’s late husband; Malcolm Carruthers, Jr.
Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, US, on September 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
A Graveside Service will take place at Memory Hill Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, US, on September 1, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
