

Carol Howell Lacy, born January 26, 1938, passed away peacefully at home in Germantown sitting with her husband of 65 years, William Larry Lacy, and her youngest daughter, Sarah Lacy. Carol was an academic, a poet, an artist, a published author, and a dedicated English teacher at St. Mary's Episcopal School for twenty years. She was recognized for her scholarly work on Fyodor Dostoevsky and Herman Melville.
She is survived by five children: Steve Lacy of Madison, Wi.; John Lacy and his wife MeLisa of San Antonio, Tx; Mary Lacy Bell of Memphis; Peter Lacy of New Orleans, La; and Sarah Lacy and her partner, Paul, of San Francisco, Ca. She had eight grandchildren: Zach, Ramie, Maria, Carly, Bob, John-Matthew, Alice, and Clover. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Kitchens of Florida. She inspired and was cherished by so many students and friends for 88 years.
The visitation for Carol will be held at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens at 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Wednesday July 15, 6-8 pm, and her celebration of life will be Thursday July 16, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations in her name to the Parkinson’s Foundation or St. Mary’s Episcopal School.
