Carolyn W. Gutelius of Bartlett, TN and formerly of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, after her courageous battle with a sudden illness. We take solace in knowing that while she may have lost the battle, she has won the ultimate war and is in her new home and its glory.
Carolyn was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and seemingly had more recipes and cookbooks than a bookstore. Flower arranging and home decorating also were other hobbies that were part of her accomplishments that provided her joy. Other than family and friends, her greatest passion had to be celebrating the Christmas season with decorations in every room. That process would often begin in October and never fully concluded earlier than February, and then reluctantly so.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. Carolyn leaves behind her loving husband of 32 years Milton A. “Skip” Gutelius Jr, her brother-in-law, Charles L. Gutelius (Stella), her nephew Dustin L. Gutelius, her niece Kimberly G. Pappas (Nathan), and her lifelong best friends who couldn’t be more closer than if they all three had been sisters, Billie Ann Stiles of Bentonville, AR, and Barbara Harris of Powell, TN. Billie and Barbara are sisters. Carolyn will be missed by all these above and many other friends in ways we don’t yet fully understand or contemplate.
The family wants to specifically thank the medical staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis Intensive Care Unit for the outstanding care, comfort and kindness that they provided to her during her stay there.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 pm until service time at 6:00pm, on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Pky, Bartlett, TN 381333. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to the American Diabetes Association. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Dandridge, TN.
