She was born to the late Charles and Maurine Dansby on December 20, 1936 in Meridian, Mississippi. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred Trexler and her infant daughter, Helen Ruth Trexler.
Her daughter, Tamara Joy Trexler-Motley and her husband Wesley H. Motley, III; her son, Stephen Fred Trexler and his wife Camilla Deloach Trexler; her grandchildren, Ashley Li and her husband Patrick Li, Caleh Trexler, Jodan Trexler, Morgan Motley; and her twin great-grandbabies, London and Brooks Li., survive Charlene.
In addition to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Charlene’s passion for painting is seen in the depth and magnitude of her work. She was a former winner of the Mid-South Fair’s coveted “Purchase Award”.
Charlene began painting her beloved Mississippi Magnolias when she became an empty nester. She studied with Marilyn Wannamaker, award winning Memphis artist. As a commissioned artist, Charlene transitioned into landscapes, seascapes and portraits. She also taught private art classes for several years and enjoyed painting with her granddaughter Caleh Trexler, who is also an award winning and scholarship artist.
Devoted and faithful to her Lord and her church, Faith Baptist Church, Charlene had special friends who gave her rides to church each Sunday.
Doctors said she would never walk. Charlene’s strong willed mother proved them wrong in order for her daughter to have a normal life. Doctors also told her not to have children. She totally ignored them and had three.
Her friends and family will always remember her sweet yet super strong spirit.
Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Sunday, August 13 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00pm.
