Danny Ray Frederick, age 74, passed away on June 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 17, 1952, to Louise Whitten Frederick and Spencer Frederick, Danny lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, friendship, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. A 1970 graduate of Memphis Catholic High School for Boys, Danny fondly remembered his school years, especially his time playing football and the lifelong friendships he made there.
For 55 years, Danny was a proud union ironworker and dedicated member of Ironworkers Local 167. He built more than structures throughout his career—he built lifelong friendships and earned the respect of all who knew him through his strong work ethic, honesty, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Among his proudest accomplishments was helping establish a college scholarship program for the children of ironworkers.
Danny never met a stranger. If he met you, you were instantly his friend. He valued family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and every person who was fortunate enough to cross his path. His kindness knew no limits, and he would quite literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need. Helping others was simply who he was.
Above all else, Danny's greatest love was his family. He cherished his beloved wife, Vicki, with whom he shared nearly 53 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. He was also a devoted father to his daughter, Leah, who brought him endless pride and joy.
Danny loved the outdoors and took great pride in caring for his yard. An avid deer hunter for many years, he found peace and happiness in nature until a stroke in 2021 limited his ability to enjoy the activities he loved. Yet even after his stroke, Danny's determination never faded, and he was still known for having the best lawn in the neighborhood. He was also a devoted fan of University of Alabama football. Some of his fondest childhood memories were listening to Alabama football games on the radio with his grandmother during the legendary Bear Bryant years, a tradition that sparked a lifelong love for the Crimson Tide.
Danny was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Frederick; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his brother-in-law, James Payne; and his best friend, Paul Gillmore, who preceded him in death by exactly five years to the day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Frederick; his daughter, Leah Frederick; his father, Spencer Frederick; his sisters, Sheila Payne and Freda Kirkland (James); as well as many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and fellow ironworkers who will forever cherish his memory.
Danny's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and friendship. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
