David Allen Winek, 64, of Bartlett, TN, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 23, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 9, 1960, in Oceanside, California, to Donald and Jeanette Winek, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his sister, Deann Winek Sullivan.
David's family will remember him fondly as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 38 years, Cindy Winek, along with their daughter, Jennifer Winek Beaman (Steve), and son, Brett Winek (Alyssa). His legacy is further carried on by his grandsons, Holden and Jaxon Winek, who he cherished greatly. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Donna Clark and Daphne Stroud (Ricky). Additionally, David is survived by two nieces and one nephew. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and loved ones.
A man of many talents and interests, David worked as a truck driver, real estate salesman, property manager, and installer of movable partitions. He found joy in helping others and always had a smile for those around him. David was passionate about sports—both playing and coaching youth teams—and he proudly earned a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo. Every Halloween, he delighted children and friends by dressing as Fred Flintstone for local events.
In addition to his love for sports and physical activities, David had a deep appreciation for spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed lively conversations about the Bible, solving the world’s problems, and playing games. A favorite pastime of his was “catching”—a term he used for fishing.
David’s signature response when asked how he was doing was always, “Better than I deserve,” a sentiment that reflected his humility and gratitude. Above all, David was a Christian man, who loved the Lord and lived out his faith with kindness and compassion. He touched the lives of many through his generosity and unwavering support, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A gathering of family and friends for David will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM followed by a memorial service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Life Choices.
