Derek is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, his daughter, Stephanie (Jason); son, Sean (Lisa); grandchildren, Faylia, Ashley, Brantlee and Kennedy; three brothers, David, Dennis and Dwight and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Maude, his father Newell and his sister Dorothy.
After his retirement from the Shelby County Trustees office he spent most of his time working in his yard puttering around doing fun little projects. He enjoyed putting together model trains and collecting antiques with Carolyn. He always looked forward to visiting his favorite daughter and family in North Dakota. His sarcasm and sharp wit was unmatched and will be missed. He will forever be in our hearts and our memories, he will always be cherished.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133.
