

Doilley Cobb Thornton, age 97, of Memphis, passed away early Friday afternoon, December 2, 2016, while peacefully sleeping at Methodist Healthcare Hospice Residence in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived her early years in Paden, Mississippi before moving to Memphis. Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and Odis Cobb, and her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, John Elbert Thornton. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Beryl Cobb of Collierville, Tennessee. In addition, she leaves a nephew, Jimmy (Marsha) Cobb, who cared for her the past several years; a nephew, David Cobb; and one niece, Cheryl Bevill. Others mourning her passing are the children of life-time friends, T.H. and Josephine Braden, including Joyce (Gary) Case, James (Connie) Braden, Linda (Donald) Roberts, and Vicki (Bill) Braden, who grew up thinking of Doilley as their "family." Others who cared for her included Thomas and Susan Wyant, who also assisted in her care. Mrs. Thornton also leaves behind in mourning many church friends and relatives. Doilley was a long-time member of Frayser Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Thornton will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, with visitation for family and friends commencing at 9:00 a.m. with a home-going service to begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh-LaGrange will immediately follow after the service.
