She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 19, 1943 to the late Ballard and Doris McCarver. A born and raised Memphian, Doris loved all things Memphis, from the Redbirds to the Summer Drive-In to most importantly, music from the King himself, Elvis Presley. The original Goldsmith's store downtown was where she eagerly worked her first job upon graduating from Immaculate Conception High School. She worked in many departments, even posing as the Easter Bunny one spring, and eventually met her future husband, Louis, while working in the store. Louis and Doris married on March 5, 1967 and have been married for over 56 wonderful years. Doris soon became a mother to two children whom she loved more than anything. She eventually became a grandmother, which she would tell everyone it was her favorite thing in the world. Known to her grandkids as Nana Doris, went above and beyond the typical grandparent duties, hosting treehouse sleepovers, loudly singing back to school songs and baking her famous chocolate cake for every birthday.
In addition to spoiling her grandkids, she enjoyed working word searches daily, having morning coffee with her husband, and enjoying her backyard pool. Doris was extremely devoted to her catholic faith all herlife. As a member of St Ann Bartlett Catholic Church, Doris attended 4:30 PM vigil mass each Saturday and would never be seen without her prayer book.
Doris is survived by her husband, Louis Fonte; children, Gina Fonte Ferrante (Joe), Chris Fonte (Amy); grandchildren, Teresa Ferrante Buttross (John B), Joseph Ferrante, Nic Ferrante; sister Judy Phillips; and many extended family and friends.
