Dorothy (Dot) Wilson Arnold, 87 went to be with the Lord on April 24, just six days short of her 88th birthday. Her husband, Ralph (Jack) Arnold preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Wilma and Joe Wilson, Sr. of Trenton, Tn. and siblings, Joe Wilson, Jr., Billy Wilson, and Evelyn Giles. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Arnold Craig (Terry), Barbara Arnold Jones (Trip), and six grandchildren who affectionately called her De-Da. William “Bill” Jones (Jennifer), Tammy French (Paul), Melissa Wilson (James), Matthew Jones (Kim), Joseph Craig, Scott Jones and six great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Dot was born in Humboldt, Tennessee but moved to Trenton, Tn. and graduated from Peabody High School. She received the “I Dare You” award, and was a member of the Peabody High Debating Team which won the State Championship. She attended Methodist School of Nursing. She is also a life-long member of the Eastern Star chapter in Trenton. After marrying, Jack’s Air Force years took them to several locations. One of her favorite times was being the President of the Air Wives Club in Japan, their favorite assignment. In Texas, she also helped her husband run a local newspaper. After retiring, they made their home in Memphis. She was a retired nurse from Drs. Disney, Galyon, Moffatt and Weems. She also worked for Dr. Robert Kirkpatrick and Dr. Lloyd Robinson. While a dedicated wife, loving mother, fun grandmother and compassionate nurse, she always wanted others to know of her love for Christ. Before becoming homebound, she was an active member at Leawood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. After her retirement she was a volunteer usher at The Orpheum, joined the Red Hat Society and the Quito Senior Citizens Group, where because of her small stature, she gained the name “Shortcake”. Her wit, feistiness, kindness, care, and love will be missed by her family and friends. Her celebration of life will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd on Saturday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm this evening, April 26. Interment will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.memphisfuneralhome.net
