Frederick “Nick” Nichols, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to paradise to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ the morning of April 3, 2024, while holding the hands of his daughters.
Nick, 91, of Bartlett, Tennessee was born to the late Edwin and Ella Bell Nichols on October 10, 1932, in Paris, Kentucky. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Lawson, his sisters, Lucille Fletcher, Gevena Schanding, and Mildred Lovell, and his brothers, Stanley Nichols, Donald Nichols, and Frank Nichols.
After graduating high school, Nick joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served our country for twenty years serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following retirement from the Air Force in 1972, Nick served his community as a United States postal mail carrier for twenty-two years.
While stationed in Fort Worth, Texas, Nick met and married the love of his life, Sue Nichols, on February 2, 1957. Nick and Sue’s union marked the beginning of a marriage built on the foundation of their faith, their love, their commitment, and unwavering devotion to one another for over sixty-seven years.
A devout Christian, Nick faithfully attended Broadmoor Baptist Church (now Waypoint Baptist Church), with him and his wife, Sue becoming members in 1972. For many years Nick was a deacon of the church where he enjoyed serving his brothers and sisters in Christ.
Nick’s dedication to his family defined his life as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His gentle spirit, quick wit and compassionate heart touched all that knew him. Nick will be eternally celebrated as a devoted husband, loving father, cherished sibling, and loyal friend.
Nick is survived by his loving wife Nona Sue Nichols of Bartlett, Tennessee; daughter Susan Biggs (John) of Collierville, Tennessee; daughter, Angela Prisock-Downing (Scott) of Rockwall, Texas; sisters JoAnn Gray of Columbus, Ohio and Elizabeth Brooks of Lancaster, Kentucky; grandchildren, Andy Lawson, Kris Lawson, Ryan Lawson, Johnny Biggs (Brittany), Jason Biggs (Olivia), Sarah Biggs, Anna Biggs, Savannah Prisock, Connor Prisock; and his great-grandchildren, Adabelle Biggs and John “Dallas” Biggs; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other close family and many friends who were considered family.
The family will receive loved ones and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens located at 3700 North Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately for the family at Sanford Rodgers Cemetery, Henderson, Tennessee.
