Gail Sulipeck Pinkney was born on Sep 28, 1946 into a patriot’s family. Her father’s employer, the U.S. Navy, moved her from coast to coast as a child before settling as a teenager in the small town of Memphis, TN. She attended Trezevant H.S. (where she was Miss Trezevant her senior year) and THE Memphis State University. With a combination of stunning good looks, a keen mind and a quick wit she made friends wherever she went. She played the piano for almost every church she attended, raised two hilarious and occasionally well-behaved children, and worked harder than most men while getting paid much less than they did. She was a true Southern lady who loved front porches, wearing pearls, magnolia trees, fried chicken and iced tea. Her advice was coveted, her smile illuminating, and you could not leave her home at meal time unless you took enough food with you to feed an army. She faced the Amazonian-jungles of life like an intrepid explorer with God as her guide and laughter as her lantern. Gail was the hopeless romantic everyone needs around and believed every event had the potential to be a Norman Rockwell painting. She saw life as a beautiful song and the melody flowed through her. She enjoyed falling, asking you to repeat things several times, preferred staying home to going out, rejoiced daily over the word of God, and getting angry with Alexa because she wouldn’t play songs by Memphis native Jason Timberwood. She adored well-crafted obituaries and saw them as celebrations of life. Our hope is that if she were able, she’d love this one as well - cut it from the newspaper - save it as she did others - and exclaim: "Now THIS was a life well lived."
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, on Wednesday, March, 24, 2021, at Grace Evangelical Church, 9750 Wolf River Blvd, Germantown, TN 38139.
