Gary Randall Ross

Gary was born to John Everette Ross and Gladys Ray Ross on August 25,1951, in Memphis,

TN. He was raised in Memphis where he attended Messick and later graduated from Oakhaven

High School in 1969 before attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Gary then

worked for Dunn and Bradstreet, Wurzburg Brothers, and later retired from Cooper Tire and

Rubber Company after 20 years.

Gary was an outdoorsman, a sports enthusiast, and an active member in his community. He

was a member of Kingsway Christian Church, Memphis Sport Shooting Association, and for

many years a member of Ridgeway Country Club. He had many talents and hobbies, including

golfing, fishing, shooting at the range, woodworking, building things, and cooking. He never

missed an opportunity to fire up the grill for “game days”, made time to make memories with

friends and family, and always appreciated a good prank.

Gary loved his friends, the Vols, and the outdoors, but most of all, Gary loved his family. He led

them wholesomely, found value in passing down wisdom for life’s lessons, and always

supported their endeavors. Gary never missed a dance show, piano recital, swim meet, or

horse show of his daughters, and in recent years he could be found cheering on his grandson at

the ball field or cracking jokes and dancing with his granddaughter. He was a loving husband to

his wife, a teacher to his children and grandchildren, and a hero to them all.

Gary traded his earthly hero cape for his eternal angel wings, leaving behind his wife of 45

years, Martha Emily Crim Ross, two daughters, Martha Dorian Ross and Kelcie Day Ross

Fountain, sisters Sydney McLean (Bob), Jennifer Herd (Buck), and brother Joel Ross (Kim),

grandson Laughlin Britt Fountain IV, granddaughter Annaleigh Day Fountain, sister-in-law

Cathey Day Crim Haynes, nephews Robert, Ross, Jason, John, James Tildon, and nieces

Jessica and Kayleigh. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Gary's name to The Ronald McDonald House and Shriners.
