

Gene Fletcher, age 78, died Monday, August 1 after a short illness. He attended Bolton High School, Lambuth College and The University of Memphis. Gene was the owner of Fletcher Concrete Company in Millington. He served as Alderman and Vice Mayor of Arlington, Mayor of Lakeland and in countless other charitable organizations including the Lakeland Lions Club. He was also a member of Arlington United Methodist Church. Gene was a member at the Arlington Masonic Lodge #641 for 57 years, a member of the York Rite, the Shrine Musketeers, the Al Chymia Shrine Temple, and a 33rd degree in the Memphis Scottish Rite. He also served on the Shrine Handicapped School board of directors. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; his son, Jay; his daughter, Jeanie Rittenberry of Brentwood; grandchildren Carson and Preston Rittenberry and his brother, Don Fletcher (Lillie). Visitation will be 5-8pm on Friday, August 5 with the funeral at 10am Saturday, August 6 at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens (Bartlett). Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery.
