George Mitchell

George William Mitchell, 78, died October 30, 2011. George was born March 29, 1933 in Ruleville, MS. He lived a long, happy, and diverse life as a devoted family man, friend, hard worker, artist, writer, and military veteran. He also retired from a leadership position with the United States Postal Service after 30 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Melva Mitchell; son, ron Mitchell of Navarre, FL; daughter, Lisa Mitchell of Nashville, TN; grandsons, Bryan Norcross of Nashville, Joshua and Jacob Mitchell of Navarre; siblings Annette Edwards, Joy Ricks (Billy), Virginia Thompson (Bob) June Crouch, and Dan Mitchell (Cindy) all of the Memphis area. He also leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews, and friends whose lives were enriched by having known him. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 3700 N. Germantown Parkway Bartlett. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens (formerly Memory Hill Gardens). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
