Born in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Bernice graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1947. She later moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she spent the majority of her adult life. She worked for AT&T for 10 years and retired from Sears in 1991.
Bernice was a Charter Member of Range Hills Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in many capacities. Most notably, she taught the 4- and 5-year-old Sunday School class for 40 years, leaving a lasting impact on generations of children.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Lyle and Wayne Clemmer; her son, David Clemmer; her brother, Joe Owen (Annette); and her sister, Bonnie McPherson.
She is survived by her son Barry Clemmer (Brenda) of Raymond, MS; stepdaughter Gloria Fiqueroa (late Gary) of Fair Oaks, California; stepsons Robert Neal Lyle (Judy) of Green Valley, Arizona, and the late David Lyle (Libby) of Memphis; granddaughter Evie Wooten (John) of Memphis; great-grandchildren Casper and Everly; step-grandson David Lyle Jr. (Maggie) of Middle Tennessee; as well as nephews and nieces.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, December 4 beginning at nine o'clock in the morning until funeral services begin at ten o'clock in Lakeland Hall at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133. Her final resting place is Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
