Herman Lewis Hayes, 94, of Cordova, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. Mr. Hayes was a WWII Navy veteran and retired from South Memphis Stockyard after more than 50 years. He was an ordained Deacon at Oakville Memorial Baptist Church where he taught Youth Sunday School for more than 20 years, and later became a member of Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents John E. and Lille B Hayes, his brothers ; Garner Hayes, Jim Hayes, his sisters; Catherine Williams, Eva Davis, Demetria Foster and Vera Killett. Herman is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary, his children; Lavon Hayes (Melanie) of Bartlett, TN, Debbie Hudspeth (Robert) of St. Louis, MO, four grandchildren; Justin Lewis Hudspeth, Courtney Hayes Hudspeth, Elise Hayes, and Lorrie Hayes, two special nieces and caretakers Jeanette Anderson and Annette Lawrence, as well as several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Curtis, Kim, and Ebony and all the staff of Crossroads Hospice for Mr. Herman's care. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m., until service time at 2 p.m., on Thursday, January 19 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. Bartlett, TN 38133. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to Crossroads Hospice.
