He was born to the late Cecil and Nancy Ross on May 25, 1930 in Norman Park, Georgia. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Ross.
He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1947 and served his country until 1950. He married the love of his life Peggy Jean Ross on November 15, 1952 and spent a wonderful 67 and a half years until her passing in 2020. He served on the USS Carrier Princeton and the USS Alabama Battleship. He was the chef at Pancho’s Restaurant from 1964 to 1968 and owned El Chap Mexican Restaurants from 1968 until 1972. He worked for Huddleston Enterprises/Lindsey Transportation as a truck driver from 1972 until 2012. He attended Bethel Baptist Church from 1971 until present. Speck enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, and walking.
Speck is survived by his children, Steven Earl Ross, Nancy Jeanne Carney, Cecil Wayne Ross, Jeffery Hilton Ross; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10:00am on Wednesday, June 19 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 10:00am. Burial will be privately held for family.
